Hi Everyone,
Here are my thoughts on forces and friction while playing Tug of War.
When playing Tug of War friction can be felt, when you pull the rope. The rope is rubbing with your hands, as each person is pulling a different direction on the rope to create friction.
Friction is also felt on your feet, as you are leaning and pulling on the rope one way.
The forces used while playing Tug of war are, yourself, your opponent, friction and gravity. You and your opponent are a force because you are pulling different ways. Friction will help your hands and feet stay in place and help you grip. Gravity helps you stay on the ground as it is pushing downwards.
